Will It Ever Stop Raining?

After the wettest March in living history, our plans for the land are on hold. Not sure if I mentioned, but me and Amanda, not forgetting Molly, Eva and Lyra, our three rottweiler girls, are still living in a 17-year-old caravan. We had to sell our lovely 4-bedroom house to generate the capital to purchase the land.

At least now we have an idea of what we will do with the land. Amanda would like bees, chickens and a couple of pigs. I would like drainage, new gates and some hardstanding. All of which will have to wait for another couple of months.

We visit the land when we can, but we are still working for the Welsh Government assisting Ukrainian Nationals who want to come to the UK to flee the war in their country. I recall one day the sun came out and thought great, spring is on its way. So, we visited the land to inspect the ground, it was still soaking. Here is a picture of Amanda walking, head down, knowing no work can start for a while yet.

But as you can see, what a location. The view from the land is breath taking.

So, after much discussion, we have finally decided what we will do with the land. We will create a mini farm and call it Y Fferm Fach, which we are told translates to The Mini Farm in English. We will create a new agricultural business breeding and selling Alpacas. We both attended a training course offered by Peter at Amazing Alpacas and had well and truly become obsessed with these animals.

Later in the month plans were now well and truly going at a good pace. We have decided on the layout for the farm and are starting to appreciate the amount of work that needs doing. So, our first purchase is the alpacas. Our initial order is for 10 females, 5 of which are pregnant and due to give birth in the summer.

As the land has no water supply, we need to have a borehole drilled. We will also need to deal with electric. We are still living in our caravan in Cardiff, so we wont need things like hot water or the disposal of grey and black waste.

We have contractors inspecting the land next month, so maybe get a start date.

See you next month.
